CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps) are four times more efficient and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent lighting. A 13 watt CFL has the same light output as a 60 watt incandescent but CFLs use 50 - 80% less electricity than an incandescent.
What does all this mean to you??? Money in your pocket!
Use the chart above to determine how much you can save by switching to Energy Star qualified CFLs. 100 watt incandescent lamps are replaced with 26 watt CFLs that generate the same light output (lumens). That is a 74% reduction in power consumption per fixture.
Even older linear fluorescent fixtures can be retrofitted. Older lamps use 40 watts per lamp, while the newer technology uses only 32 watts. That is a 20% reduction in your power consumption with a minimal investment by your company.
One area that can result in substantial savings is the exit sign. Older exit signs have two 20 watt incandescent lamps. Ours run on 3 watt LED technology. The EPA states on its website, "If all U.S. companies switched to Energy Star qualified exit signs, they would save $75 million in electricity costs per year."
